'96 Chevy Lumina stalls when shifting into drive

Alright, so my 1996 Chevrolet Lumina (3.1 Multiport fuel injected engine, 6 cylinder, AT) will run perfectly fine for the first thirty miles or so, when what seems to be the torque converter starts to lock up and stay locked up. The car will start to drive as if it was a manual, complete with chugging, hard shifts, and eventually stalling. When the car is started again (in either park or neutral), it will fire up and idle fine. When the car is shifted into drive or reverse, the car will lurch forward a foot or so and stall again. If the car is allowed to cool, it will shift perfectly fine for the next thirty miles or so. I believe this has to do with either the torque converter, or TCC solenoid, perhaps, but what has me confused is the fact it only occurs at high temperatures, and why said lockup occurs, along with how to remedy the situation. Any suggestions?[reply

You're on the right track. Someone needs to troubleshoot the circuit but it's probably a bad TCC solenoid. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
