Ok first post on the forums here so first I'd like to say hello!

Firstly the problem I am having is one day I get into my truck start it up and the clutch pedal goes to the floor and becomes very light and shakes up and down after I hear a small pop somewhere under the truck. The pedal still goes up and down but is very light and like I stated before it now shakes up and down. No fluid was leaking out at the time, and all fluid levels were good as well. My first instinct was that I had broken the clutch cable but I quickly ruled that out, next on the agenda was a rebuild of the clutch including a new slave cylinder. I ordered the parts and its onto fixing it.

Also worth noting is I can put the truck in gear without any problems, all gears-while stopped and moving. The clutch is slipping quite a lot ever since the pedal became soft and shaky but I was still able to drive it to my brother in laws to work on it. Another thought I had was it was something may be a-miss with the input shaft as I have been hearing a ticking (which is speed sensitive)it will be faster while moving and slower while idle when the clutch is engaged. When the clutch not engaged the noise goes away. I asked my mechanic about it and even took him on a ride so he was able to hear it and he was unable to diagnose what it was.

I'm currently replacing the clutch (manual transmission, 5 speed + reverse) in my truck, (pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, ect) I dropped the driveshaft and removed it. Next up was removing the plug on the transmission.

Pulled the plug out and there were 2 small parts stuck to the magnet, I've been all over google images trying to find a match, looked in my owners manual, checked my Haynes repair manual, searched for assembly diagrams for transmissions and gearboxes, browsed forums, called 2 full time mechanics and provided pictures of the part, took the part to my local chevrolet dealership, and went to a mechanic who works on quite a number of transmissions all of which has gotten me no closer to figuring out what these things are.

So I pose the same question to you, what in the heck is this thing?

You can post links to your own pictures or videos in here as long as they are in good taste and relate to your problem. We don't want videos or pictures of you running around naked with a bottle of ranch dressing in your hand.

Your just not permitted to post links inside the forum for advertising, other forums, porn sites, illegal sites, or business sales without permission from the administrator. The admin has sponsorers that advertise on this site because it cost money to keep the site running. The paying advertisers wouldn't like seeing other advertisers getting a free ride, so that is the reason for rule #3.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Do you know which transmission you have?

There are four possible ones.

T-5
NV1500
NV3500
NV4500

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you on this, I had the truck at my local repair shop and from what the mechanic could gather it was part of an assembly in the transmission that was designed to hold the shift lever upright. Since I have owned the truck it has always just fallen to the left or right without any resistance in either direction, so I had assumed it was normal as I have only ever owned that vehicle and driven a handful of standard transmission trucks it never dawned on me that it was supposed to have any resistance when moving from the center of the tree.

After replacing the clutch and slave cylinder everything appears to be back to normal other than the shift pattern seems to be slightly off when putting the truck in 4th and 5th gear, the shifter goes a bit further to the right and instead of going over to the right fully and up to get into 5th gear I now have to keep the shifter about 1" away from the "stop point" on the right side of the shift pattern and it goes into 5th and reverse no problems.

I was never able to figure out exactly what transmission I had as the owner's manual did not list a specific one, would it be possible to get the information off the vehicles VIN number?

Either way I appreciate all the help everyone here has given me!
