Sign In Hi guys, first post. I've got a 1989 Daihastu Charade 1.0L (5sp Manual), with ~60,000km (35,000 miles), still using original clutch, as far as I'm aware. My problem is that fairly often, if I'm going up a hill (sometimes even on the flat) if I try to accelerate past 80-100kph (it varies) in 4th/5th, the engine will increase revs, quite drastically, but the speed itself won't increase. It also takes a short while for the clutch to grip, even if I drop it. (Not revving high and dumping the clutch pedal, just when changing gears normally). A couple of months back my old mechanic (since moved) told me the clutch was about to "let go" and he'd had to adjust the spring. I'm assuming that the friction plate (and possibly other parts) have just finally worn out and need replacing? I don't have the equipment to replace it myself, I'd just like to know whether I'm on the right track.
