? Begs the question what do you mean 2Hi? Do you mean the second drive on indicator which typically just doesn't allow locking of converter. If you shifted to plain 2 you would only get 1 + 2. Could be linkage adjustment. What is this in? Year and what? Also - what does it do when you move shifter to N then down to first spot that engages at all?

its a 1987 chevy v-10 series 1/2 ton 4x4 with 5.7 tbi motor i stopped at gate put back in 2 wheel drive and unlock front hubs then pulled out on road.the linkage adj. is correct i have all detents where they supposed to be it doesnt pull unless you put it in the 2nd gear detent it will not pull if you put in 3rd 9(D) on dash and nothing in (OD) this truck has ran great no problems untill now just seems very random

Nothing in OD suggest a linkage adjustment as if trans thinks the the N posistion. I'm not the trans specialist but plain D then would behave the way you describe thinking you selected 2. I'm not quite ready to suggest it needs a redo yet. It's possible a "band" gave out and you are in for a teardown to remedy that which is why while that far in it would always (at least in my expeirence and I don't and never did automatic trans overhauls) but it sure was part of schooling back when.

TMK the 700R is a three speed with locking converter which feels like another gear. It's ages ago now but I think the normal loss of RPM transfer is about 10% at the torque converter itself.

Think of a torque converter at one table fan running face to face with one that isn't. Both turn but the one that is off isn't going to do so at the same RPM unless they are locked together. That's how I understand how that works.

Perhaps one of the other techs here has an idea for you. I think from a web forum for now I suggest having a shop that does overhauls take a look and suggest what it might be. 700R was very popular.

BTW - site has experienced some issues and I didn't get an auto repy notice that you replied?? This just happened recently and doen't help with communicating so please bear with us if it's happening just to me it's mine to fix but I think the site software has been violated somehow. Good luck with it, cross your fingers but I can't be sure - sorry,

Re: 700r4 wont shift Sign In

Thanks for the input i dropped the trans. pan in it I found a valve laying there, took it to a friend and he said it was in the small valve body,he said it prevents pressure spikes on transmission when someone has foot on gas and pulls it in gear. i dropped the valve body and replaced the valve, put the check ball back in ,then replaced filter and filled it up IT WORKS GREAT don't know what the techincal name is for that part it fixed it. thank you for your time hope this helps someone else.Smile
