2012 Equinox transmission issue Sign In

Hi all,
Our 2012 Chevy Equinox is getting "stuck" in a high gear when driving down the highway. It then throws up a engine light (seems like when it's down-shifting to speed up)code and will not shift. At stops it then takes forever to get to speed again as it's in that high gear. Once you are up to speed it is fine. When I clear the code with my scanner everything is fine again until we go on long trips. It seems to ONLY happen when IN CRUISE. Local mechanic says the transmission control module is bad. Just want any other opinions on if it could be something more simple before I would have him change it out as it is going to be about $1200. Thanks to all

Our trans expert (gsferraro) will be along to help but I know his first question will be "what is the code number being stored?"

P0700 Transmission Control System (MIL Request) which I am understanding is a pretty vague code?

Yes, it is vague. It is simply a flag to inform you that there are more specific codes stored in the Transmission Control Module.
Your generic code reader cannot read them. You will need a professional scan tool capable of accessing the TCM.
