I have been having transmission problems with my 2008 Saturn Vue (V6-3564 3.6L, 90, 214 miles) for about one month. The error code (P0752) seems to be pointing to a problem with the shift solenoid. So far, a dealership (where they barely looked at my car) quoted me $1600 to replace the whole TCM, even though the problem might be with just one solenoid. I cannot afford $1600 at this time. While I try and come up with a solution, do you think changing the transmission fluid and coolant might buy me some time? Or maybe installing a transmission cooler? My car tends to act up when it’s hot and often is okay when it is cool, so it seems that cooling it might help in the short term. I just find it very stressful driving when it is acting up as it’s difficult to get the car to go faster than 35 mph on 45 mph roads, and of course the people behind me are not happy! On top of that, it’s just very nerve racking, as I keep wondering if the car is going to break down.

Hello,
This code P0752- points to a mechanical problem within the trans, on this transmission called a 6T70 the TCM is internal and you cant just change out a solenoid, its sold as an assembly, it could be the tcm or it could be a pressure loss somewhere in the trans. How does this car work cold compared to when the car is hot? Is the P0752 the only code? Gary

Thanks for the info, Gary. When cold, the car runs very smoothly and the engine light goes off... when it's hot the engine light comes on and the car struggles and makes a low key noise when I go faster than 25 mph. Do you think that changing the transmission fluid/ coolant (both never been changed) or installing a transmission cooler would help while I try and sell the car. I am desperate to make my trip to work tolerable tomorrow (20 miles there and back).

Let me jump in here to say I just went through the exact same thing on a Saturn Vue that I bought at an auction. After extensive research and pricing options I concluded that the cost to resolve this will well exceed$1500 for even a used one. I wasted a bunch of money replacing the module/solenoid pack in an attempt to fix it before facing the fact the transmission was shot. This is a very rare trans to find used and the prices are extreme. Rebuilders seemed to be in the $2000 and up range.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, I don't plan to spend any money on this beyond fluid changes to keep the car going while I sell it.

The fluid change could make it worse. Making a deal to get rid of it sooner, rather than later could be the smartest move.

Yeah, I'm aware that the fluid change could make it worse, but i'm willng to take a gamble to stop it further deteriorating. It's really difficult trying to sell it quickly without getting ripped off. I'm in a full time job which is very demanding, so I only have the weekends to deal with the car issue. I've already been ripped off trying to get a more indepth transmission diagnosis twice in three weeks, however, fortunately each time, the corporate office gave me back my money because I was able to prove that I had asked for an indepth diagnosis and each time the auto mechanics just did a basic scan which I had already done myself at autozone. So I'm very wary of getting anything done on it because even with simple things, I'm getting ripped off... and I'm sure selling it is also going to be tricky, so I'm going to have to be careful going about it.

If you are expecting one of the chain stores to be able to give you an accurate transmission diagnosis, then you dialed the wrong number to start with. This isn't a job for the caliber of people they hire or the equipment they have at their disposal.
Gary is probably the most knowledgeable transmission specialist you will find in your travels.

I wondering how to get it valued fairly given the problems I've had so far. Without the transmission issue, it is worth about $8000. But without getting a proper diagnosis, I don't want to undervalue the car, and I'm sure most dealerships will be very eager to do that, so I think I'll go the private route. Another thing is, I don't know for sure that it's not something to do with the well known wave plate failure, which would enable me to get GM to pay for a completely new transmission... I'm covered by that warranty until January 2018. I'm just struggling to do know what to do which is why I'm turning to forums.... I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone in a shop.

I am a dealer and I don't know where you are getting your valuations from but I just bought an 04 Vue for $1800 and sold it for $2600 and it had no problems. Your truck is worth about $1500 trade in and about $2500 private sale in it's current condition.

Hello,
If you have reverse, the plate is not broken, if it was you would have no 3rd,5th or reverse. As i said the code is a performance code- ponits to a mechanical problem inside the trans, changing the fluid wont help. this is a 6 speed trans with the tcm inside, nothing can really be done on the outside other than a pressure test and if pressure is not correct will point to an issue inside, you have bushings, sealing rings, solenoids, pistons, all can cause similar problems, you cant get away from going inside this trans. I have at my shop now an 08 GMC acadia with the same code, customer keeps asking me what can be done, i told him all i can do first is get another TCM(because i would change that anyway on an overhaul)install it and program it, if it works hes good to go if not have to pull the trans and go futher. There is a pressure loss somewhere in the trans and the computer is blaming the soleniod. The couple of times that it was a solenoid problem was in the moring the car did not shift correctly until it warmed up alittle, then it worked perfectly, to me that was a sticky solenoid, installed a new TCM and it worked good from then on, if this is doing it all the time or more hot, that may be a pressure loss inside this unit, these transmissions are not that great(extened warranty) a few months ago i did 5 in about 3 weeks time.
