On a trip the service engine light came on, went to local parts store and code said the Transmission Input Shaft Speed Sensor was bad. Purchased the part and as I was driving home to install replacement part while turning onto another road, I slowed to make the turn and then pressed the gas and the engine rev'd up but the car wouldn't move forward. I pulled over shut the engine off, restarted and the car would move but only at 5 mph no matter how much gas pedal was pressed. Got the car home replaced the part and car was fine.
Next day I noticed that when I shifted into reverse there was a slight jerk but the car drove without any noticeable glitches. The car drove fine for a couple weeks (everyday) and then after work on the way home I stopped in traffic and when the traffic cleared I pressed the gas, the engine rev'd up without the car moving forward and then it jerked forward really hard. I drove it home with no more issues. After it being parked for a couple hours I came back out to run a couple errands and when I put the car into reverse it it jerked forward and would not back up. The car will shift into drive and move forward like it should but when I shift it into neutral it will still pull forward just like as if it is in drive. When I shift it into Park it jerks hard forward (almost like it's releasing pressure) and stops.
Don't know if this matters or not but want to tell anyway, with the ignition key in the on position and the shifter in any gear position the car can be pushed forward or backward without any resistance felt in the transmission.

Hello,
The problem with your transmission is the foward clutch is locked on and wont release, thats why it will move foward in neutral and not in reverse. In reverse the reverse clutch applies, but with the foward clutch locked on it wont move backwards(you have the foward and reverse clutch pack on at once, the result is a bind up), not much you can do with this other than to pull the trans out to have it repaired r overhauled. One more question Gary if you would be so kind. I have sourced a replacement transmission and am relatively confident in my ability to do the swap but am wondering if that stuck front clutch is going to give me any problems when it comes time to separate the transmission from the engine.

Hello,
No that wont be an issue, the foward clutch is inside the trans. Gary

Gary I'm back, need more advice. I bought a used transmission (62K miles) to replace the one with the front clutch froze up. I stripped down and removed all the parts I thought needed to be removed this past weekend in preparation for removing the transmission. (air box, water pump housing, battery box, tranny mount, etc...) in what I thought would be a top removal but once I got to that point I couldn't determine if it was a true top removal or drop it out the bottom. So I put it back together and I am again driving it (without reverse). I need to know does the transmission come out the bottom or can I remove it (without pulling the engine) from the top? The top removal looks really tight, not sure I have enough room to separate it from the engine, turn it to clear the trans mount and get it to lift out.

Hello,
Never pulled one out from the top, trans comes out through the bottom, shouldnt have to pull the engine. Gary
