2005 F150 O/D won't turn on

2005 Ford F150, 4x4, v8, 58k
while driving 'O/D off' light came on, O/D would not turn on when pressing botton, transmisson doesn't shift into overdrive. tried disconnecting battery to reset, didn't work.

Go have the trouble codes read. The OD light indicated you have a problem. The transmission codes are stored in the PCM, so a generic scan tool will read the codes. Post back the exact code number.
