2003 silverado transmission Sign In

This is abuot my 2003 chevrolet silverado with 47000 miles,I had my transmission fluid and filter replaced at a service station in Arizona, then drove to Minnesota, about 1800 miles, during the trip, I noticed the transmission slipping badly, something that had not occured before. Upon arrival in Minnesota, I took the truck to a chevrolet dealership for repair. $1082 later, I asked what happened, they informed me that the filter was missing when they removed the pan and that caused the problem with the transmission. I called the service station in Arizona and they said that a missing filter would not cause the problem. Who is right?

That a generic pic of a GM trans oil filter and pick up from an unknown trans type but typical. Note that the tube on filter allows for ATF to be picked up lower in the pan for use in the transmission.

IMO and it's just that - an opinion, with this missing you not only suck up unfiltered fluid but it surely appears to me that it wouldn't be able to make use of the suggested fill for the trans hence behaving like it was quite low despite any checking by dipstick.

I'm acutally surprised if your is this style that it behaved at all right away. I'm also surprised the damage was only the amount you mentioned!

It's my opinion that this completely missing could and would be the cause of damage if driven with it slipping for any lenghth of time or miles.

I suggest you get service manager's of both dealerships on the same page with their own techs and documantation and settle up to your satifaction.

Disclaimer: I'm not there, am not seeing what happened or witness of anything - just a guess at what might occur if something like you said in fact happened.

Good luck,

T
