2003 Chrysler Sebring - Slowing Down Shifting problems Sign In

I have a 2003 Chrysler Sebring with 170,000 miles. While in Drive and slowing down, from 40+ mph speeds, when the cars speed gets between 25 and 30mph it will jerk a couple times and occasionally stall.

To me it feels like it is having a problem downshifting. Like maybe it trying to go from drive to low missing 2nd/3rd gear. Because of being in to low of a gear momentarily it causes the card to jerk, but then quickly goes into the correct gear.

Also, if I manually shift the car, when going into 3rd or drive I feel it click into position, but going into low it does not click. Dont know if this is related or just another issue.

If I am driving in 3rd gear, not drive, I dont really feel the problem (it may be there but is ever so slight).

Thank for any help or insight that can be provided.

You'll need access to a high end scan tool to read the transmission module for codes. A generic reader like parts stores use won't do any good. It may be worth your while to swing into a transmission shop for a diagnosis as they have the scanner and see these all the time. They'd know for sure whats happenning with this.

I have the same issues. It came on suddenly. I have been told that it may have to do with a sensor associated with the fuel intake system. I hesitate to go to the transmission shop as that usually results in a new transmission...

So I'm guessing when you think you might have cancer you don't go to the doctor either, huh? Transmission shops don't get cars brought to them that are working fine. They diagnose the issue and see if it needs a repair. They don't need to make up problems. A good transmission shop is too busy to keep up with the ones that are bad to bother trying to hustle you. All automatics eventually fail. Some do it more than others. Don't be acting like the shops are in some conspiracy to screw you.
