2000 sonoma 2.2 clutch solenoid

Need a heads up on this, truck slips or revs high before it moves but only when it's cold. Once warmed up it drives and shifts fine. Does the torque conver clutch solenoid have a main bearing on this problem? 4L60E

lets start simple easy -
Check fluid - level, condition...
Scan for codes - yes even if light is off.
while at parts store
If no codes and if last change info is unknown.. I would try new filter and fluid
Pick up a bottle of lubegard red.... a trans additive...

easy, did throw an 1870 code I think. Paper is in the truck. Level is right on. I added a pint of transX, drove it and seemed fine. I did extract level taken up with adding the transx. Was fine afterward but next morning same problem.

 Hello,
1870 code is a tcc slip code, but shouldnt have any bearing on your problem, how long does this problem happen for, is it only on start-up when cold?

only when cold, rest of the day it's fine. Seems when fluid warms everything is fine!

kinda sound like you may be having a drainback problem. Heres how you can tell, when the car is stone cold(in the morning would be the best time) pull the dipstick out and see if its more than 2 1/2 inches above the full mark, do this WITHOUT starting the car. If it is, its draining back overnite . If its 2 1/2 inches above the full mark, that means the level is correct

Checked it before I done anything. Level was above full about 2 in. I took it to the shop and changed the solenoid, already had it so, it was Sunday, beer fridge was full enough so just installed it. Home now and will post the results tomorrow when I get movin again. Thanks G

Just started the truck, took about 4000 rpm to move it in reverse or forward. Problem not resolved.

Hello,
Pretty much with a bad solenoid, it would just produce lock-up codes. Do you have acess to a pressure gauge? Theres nothing common to foward and reverse on this unit, so you may have an issue with your pump,filter or pressure reg valve. You had mentioned this happens when the car is cold, so does this condition last for about 15 minutes? also , was anything done to the trans before this problem started? Gary

Gary, I think I would be dangerous with pressure gauges. Know enough to keep away from things I am not well versed in. You menbtioned the filter. I have dropped the pan twice and each time the filter is in the pan. Not secured in the trans. I dropped the pan again today because the pan was leaking fluid. Punched a drain port last night and gung-ho buddy welded it back, or so we thought. Pan is off now and will weld it tomorrow. I really don't think it dripped enough fluid last night to cause slippage. I checked dipstick engine off and was overfull. As for howong it lasts, we live in egypt, amongst the shinners that don;t get caught (that's how far back I am) point is when we leave, we go usually 15-20 miles to nearest town so it warms up by then. Fine shifting rest of the day.

CH - what the heck happened with punching a hole in the pan? Were you trying to make a drain plug for it?
Buddy - you know if filter doesn't stay up and I forget on this is a bail or couple bolts but it's not going to pick up fluid low enough despite reading too full not good.
Pan was leaking? Who's helping you? Are you or helper way over tightening the pan? You know that will make one leak now when hole is fixed check the pan - it might have to go and filter may need another or why can it fall down?
Damn - also forget if the gasket for the 4L60E is reusable depending on what type is there and been ages just recall the 4L80E could reuse an OE gasket AND comes with a drain plug.
Hit me off web if you wish CH and let at least fix this pan and filter issue, Tom

Hello,
The seal in the pump should hold that filter in place, make sure that filter is going all the up, it should bottom out at the valvebody. Its not so easy to change the filter seal on these units, but im wondering if that filter seal is no good, do you feel any drag when you install the filter. As i said nothing common to foward and reverse on this unit. You live in egypt, greetings from New York. Gary

Well, not so much Egypt the country, rather BF Egypt. The filter when I put it back up went right to the bottom of the valve body and stopped. I am installing a new filter today and grommet. Will post results asI have them. Thanks Gary

With the help of Gary, Kev, And Tom, we can close this thread as done and successful! Thanks guys! I put the new filter and mounting ring or seal in last night. The filter seemed to be installed correctly but took a 2x2 and smacked it with a hammer and it went in another 2 inches! Bottomed out at the valve body as stated. No leaks, started out in Drive, NO issues! Works as it should! Thanks again guys! Bill

So glad to hear that "Bill" - you know I've called you CH at the site. Dang buddy - the filter tube went up another 2"! No wonder it fell out.
I'll lock thread and you know the game can re-open as you wish. Site has PMS right now or something so don't know it you or anyone can get in dependably for a while, Tom
