I have 1995 4WD Nissan where the part time 4wd works very well. Well, it was snowing a lot today (1 foot), so I decided to try the full time 4wd because what the hell. I am pretty sure I followed the instructions properly (put in N first) but I heard a grinding noise and could feel it coming through the stick that shifts into 4wd. I immediatly put it into park (while the car was still on) and heard some grinding but it eventually went away. I put into part time and drove is for about ten minutes without any problems. Questions: Should I be worried? Did I damage my gear box? Thanks! That grinding you heard can't be good but you may be lucky this time and nothing happened.
