1992 plymouth duster/sundance stuck in reverse

This 1992 Plymouth Duster/Sundance is a V6 with manual 5 speed transmission. It was put in reverse and will not disengage, shifter in what would appear to be neutral, yet the transmission is still in reverse. I have unhooked the shifter from the two shift cables and tried to manually pop it out of gear with absolutely no luck...HELP!!!
