1987 ford aerostar tranny

van will start shifting normal until u get to third gear you have 2 speed up then let accelerator go and van will shift to third gear otherwise it wont shift, up hill it will be kicking in slower gear back and forth but third is hard to shift, rest of gears shift smoothly as normal exempt third gear what could be causing this if anyone has suggestions let me know what i need to do please. sorry the engine size is a 3.0 V6 Thank you...

It only shifts hard on third going uphill not on straight road, what vacuum leak is the one u are suggesting, where are these located at if you can direct me too them thank you.......

Any vacuum leak should be ruled out. Intake manifold vacuum is lower under load like the hill thing and if leaking at just the wrong spot could delay upshift or make it think there's more load than there is. Other things possible - just wanted to rule that one out,
