I've never replace a clutch before, and I just bought a clutch kit for my 1984 Chevy c10 pickup. If I take apart the clutch will I be able to put it back together? is there anything I have to make sure to do?

Shouldn't be too bad but it really helps to support the trans and you will need a pilot tool for the clutch disk to line it up. You may be able to rent some tools for this as you wouldn't use them that often I hope, T

Make sure before you start the job you have a good repair manual. Get one from either Mitchell or Alldata. Sorry but Chilton and Haynes don't always get it right. You have one shot at replacing a clutch. If you are misled, you will have to get another kit and another Saturday to redo it.

Steve is correct you have one shot at it. What I meant and was incomplete by supporting trans is that you really can't let it hang just by the splines of the clutch or it will warp. Support it till at least you get a couple bolts snugged up or you risk it shaking and would only be fixed by yet another new one! T

you should be able to get a plastic clutch alignment tool with your clutch kit if you dont ask for one

Yes, most quality clutch kits include the alignment tool. It is about 6 inches long, is splined, and usually has a loop or hook on the end.
