04 Explorer Trans issues IMMEDIATELY after oil change Sign In

Like the title says. 04 Explorer.

No transmission issues ever. Immediately after doing an oil change myself for first time, get some transmission dropouts, slipping out of gear at stop lights, waiting way too long to go into 2nd, etc.

Then, started getting OD off light, and service engine. Error codes show something about wrong setting for 2nd, 5th, solenoid error... a bunch of 'em.

Anyway, guy at parts store says I must have knocked a wire loose causing misreads between cpu and transmission. It's a real pain getting under there since I'm using jack stands, so wondering if anyone knows exactly what I should be looking for or at least the exact name of a connector or something so I can look it up.

thx.

All this right away from an oil change? Have to agree with the suggestion to go back and see what was bumped, unplugged or outright damaged by where you placed jack and stands if your first time doing such. PLEASE BE CAREFUL - IMPROPER HOISTING AND JACK STAND PLACEMENT IS A POSSIBLE LIFE AND DEATH CHOICE AND IF NOT SURE DON'T!

Actually, I bought the jack stands since for another repair. I just crawled underneath for the oil change. It started slipping immediately. The error codes, OD light, and service engine light came a month later.

I remember it being a major pain to reach up into where the oil filter was, I had to remove a big plastic cover from the front then reach way up into where I couldn't see anything. If I had some idea if there is a particular bit of wiring or harness on this side or that it might help to zero in on it.

Other than that, all I did was crawl under the driver's side to get to the oil pan... so if I damaged something, it must be somewhere near those two areas... just not sure where likely point would be or exactly what I should be looking for.

Yes, some are a PITA just to change oil. Placement of assorted jacks and stands you need to know where they can go was a safety concern.

In my book oil change intervals also mean checking fluid levels and assorted periodic maintenance. Maybe trans fluid was just low and if hoisted at an angle the fluid was all to one end or side and was already at the rock bottom minimum level and couldn't take it for example.

Re-check what you did and go look if it takes a mirror and light to see what was where you reached into no-man's land for the filer and where a filter wrench might have touched as well. It's just that it happened instantly so highly likely something in doing that caused it but not absolutely,
