suspension problems after accident Sign In

I had a rear end collision and 26,758 worth of damages. 2013 Audi s4. I had a unibody pull and rebuilt suspension along with many other things. I got the car back and had swaying problems and almost rolled the car. I took it back and they tightened some bolts?? I'm still noticing swaying and the car doesn't handle well anymore. My question is how do I know the shop, a Audi certified shop, did the work right? What are things I could look for or notice? Also what are the problems I may face down the road with this type of damage? Thanks so much for your help!

The only thing you could do is have it inspected by another expert body shop and get their opinion.

Wow!


I'm surprised that wasn't totaled out and hope nobody was hurt. "problems down the road?" If some place did that much repair and turned it back over to you with those problems it doesn't bode well to me that this was fixed all that well at all.

I can't know the rules place by place or ins. company strangleholds but you should have (do here, MA) 6 months for "unseen" damages. You also should know and be compensated for that car now having a history that destroys its value. Check on that,

Thanks so much for the help. It wasn't totaled because it was a 60k car. I am bringing it to another shop, but I just don't know that much about cars and what to ask them. Will I always have alignment issues? Or lose bolts? Thanks again!!

Just tell them what you told us, that you want an opinion on the quality of the repair.

Totalled here means the cost of repairs + value of all the rest of it as it is (surprising how much the good parts left can be worth + costs of alternate transportation if like here if exceeds the static value it's totalled, insurance co. sells the remains, gives you a payout to quickly be free of ongoing problems.

That's just the money side of it. As HT said get this checked out by another shop not affiliated with the one that repaired it. NO - it should not have ongoing lose items periodically at all.

Accidents are never a joy........

If fixed properly you won't have any alignment issues. If it's not handling like it did the day before the accident something wasn't fixed or fixed correctly. As HT said, take it to another shop. You don't have to know anything about cars. That's why you pay a mechanic. Just tell them exactly what happened and what symptoms you're noticing and they should be able to take care of it. It might not hurt to contact you insurance agency and catch them up to speed on everything. If you were rear ended you shouldn't have to spend a dime on any of it. They would also be able to let you know any kind of limitation of rights as Tom mentioned. It would be awful if for some reason they noticed the frame was bent but it wasn't noticed until after the limitation of rights expired. I try and get all of this taken care of right away. I keep the ball rolling while the claim is still recent.

I know it's probably too late but I would've bee pretty upset about them doing $28,000 worth of repairs to a $60,000 car. If you ever go to sell it you'll end up getting way less than what it's worth because of the accident. There probably wasn't anything you could do anyways. The insurance companies seem to take care of themselves more than they do us.

Just in last few years, MA went to competitive ins for vehicles. Was only state that set all prices of everything, no competition for pricing. Worst battles I ever fought out there.

For $50 bucks they will weasle out the lowest cost to get out of their liability. If they thought this was worth fixing vs buying it as it was they snagged this person. Costs add up depending on location. If not at fault here (insurance only decides) then you let something this bad sit in locked storage at up to $150-300 / day which gets their goat fast. Demand same vehicle for alternate transportation too - that gets them. Demand the value of it fixed with that history vs one that wasn't and get that $$ too as YOU WILL LOSE THAT DOWN THE ROAD.

If you have the misfortune of a total loss later they will deduct it from the payout! Nice - NOT!

The body shops do battle all the time with the ins companies to do things right and get strangled too on their end. No matter the disaster no shop should give the fixed vehicle back without a full test run and inspection that all is safe again as it was.

BTW - Instantly here with that much and even MUCH less damage if police concerns were involved the inspection sticker is voided out requiring a new one after the fix. Insurance pays for that too but you have to ask dangit!

Again - a 2013 car with that much damage was totalled. Person didn't see the other expenses involved and once again ins played games for very short gain in this case - not nice to the owner of the car at all. If this car was leased you are in for a catastrophic surprise at the end,

If you think you have big problems with car insurance, come down here and buy a house within 20 miles of the ocean and try to buy homeowners insurance and see how many ways they have to rake you over the coals or better yet, just refuse to insure you.
