can't get A/C below 70 degree's Sign In

Hi all , new here to the forum and by far a qualified a/c tech but know a little, I just picked up a 1998 chevy s10 ,4.3 at an auction and noticed the a/c worked well when I got it a few months ago but being in Las Vegas we are hitting 110 heat and the temp won't go lower than 70 which for being 110 outside I guess that's not bad but my other car gets down to about 55. I put my gauges on it and I am reading 30-40 on low side and just under 200 on high,I thought about the blend door but also noticed the heater core was bypassed, any thoughts on this ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Those pressures aren't far off from normal but there are many factors that would effect them.

What I would do is have the system completely evacuated and recharged with the proper amount of refrigerant and some UV dye. Then you can see what the pressures are then and if it starts to warm up again, you can look for the dye with a UV light.

Well I got it down to 60 degree's but its only 90 here today we will see on the next hot one, maybe I should go ahead and tear it apart and put in a new dryer and orifice tube, what do you think ? What I did today was recover the old Freon and man did it look bad kinda of a blackish green then pulled a vacumn and it went down fast real fast then put in 24 oz of 134a.

If that is manual AC it holds 30 oz. If it auto AC, it holds 32 oz.

Refrigerant doesn't have a color. If you got black green stuff coming out when you recovered, you got something in the system that shouldn't be there. How did you recover? Was this black green stuff in the oil drain bottle of a recovery machine?

You should pull the orifice and see what is on the screen.
