a/c problem 1998 gran marquis Sign In

I have a 1998 mercury gran marquis with a v8 4.6L with 83,000 miles. when I turn on the cars a/c it blows hot air. the freon level is good. If I disconnect the battery for 1 minute, then reconnect the battery the a/c works perfectly, but only for a day or 2. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

When it is blowing warm is the ac compressor clutch engaged?

Guess we don't know if engaged when this happens or how refrigerant level was known correct. Very common on close model years is the clutch air gap too large and couldn't be easier to fix if so. You don't even need to take the belt off to remove one shim. If too large it would respond to a tap on outer plate when it should be engaged and if not more investigating as to why not,
