Please help identify this hole please Sign In

Hello e39 enthusiasts,

I bought a brand new compressor for my bmw 530d however there is a hole on it that I don´t know what this hole is for. Take a look please
Here is another angle:

What is this hole for?
What is supposed to connect to that hole if anything?, or can I just use the compressor with the hole open like that?

I bought the ac compressor and they sold it to me like that with nothing in the hole. The old ac compressor didn´t have that hole.Am I missing something that should go in that hole?

I would appreciate your help please. Thanks

That would be for either a switch or a blow off valve. I would just swap the manifold with yours and reuse what you have. Be sure to replace the gasket when you remove the manifold.

Look at your old compressor. That hole appears to hold a sensor for high pressure and or high temp and hard to see but is sealing refrigerant and anything that does should have come with a plug or sealed off till you get it to install.

Compressors don't come with every device/switch that may or may not be used on that specific vehicle. If that's just a blind hole would be for some support bracket most likely.

If this isn't a drop in replacement for the one you are replacing it is going to be troubles. If rebuilt (appears new) consider going new now instead,

This really isn't a big deal. If the new manifold doesn't match the old one, then just use the old one. It takes less than a minute to swap it.

Thanks to you all. Where can I get a pressure relief valve for this new ac compressor?

Take it off the old one and get a new gasket/O-ring for it. If some "blowout" ones do blow out they don't all reset and seal. Ask where you got the compressor if you need a new one or perhaps local to you for A/C parts,

If the old compressor didn't have one in that spot, it means it has one elsewhere and you really don't need or want 2 of them so just using the old manifold is the way to go.
