Help with A/C question Ford Taurus Sign In

I took my car to an auto shop and they told me that there was a leak in my A/C compressor. They mentioned that it could be recharged, but the freon would eventually leaked out. They said it would cost 1500 to fix and the car isn't worth it. SO, I was at an auto parts store and the guy mentioned that I can use an A/C stop leak which is easy to do. You connected it yourself, squirt the stuff and then you take the refrigerant can and recharge it yourself. This would cost around 50/60 dollars, a lot less than 1500! Will this work? Is it easy to do? The guy said it would work and it's real easy. Any advice? Thanks.

Forget it. That is just a "death kit" and will not seal a compressor but will contaminate the rest of the system.

NO STOP LEAK!!!!! I know they sell it everywhere and in the trade will call that "Death Kits" as is can ruin the whole system!

Those things in a can with who knows what have a very low percentage of fixing common leaks but then you have likely contaminated refrigerant that no pro want to deal with. If you insist much is rentable for free for deposit for safe return.

These cars use "spring lock" connectors that are know to leak or anywhere really. Find and fix the leak and be done with it. Random guessing at charging it could cause monster damage and just avoid that,

(edit - HT {phone calls} you hit faster than I did but the same idea)
