i don't get a warm airflow in my car when im not moving, but when im driving i get warm air. But sometimes when its warm outside it randomly works. Could it be that the heater motor is broken? or the coil? Its a 2002 audi a4 3.0 quattro if anyone needs to know that.

You mean volume of air - right? That would be the blower motor's job. Will it give you a good blast of air if you select defrost or another setting? Also, do the various speeds of the request work - if auto asking for max defrost should be max fan speed with highest temp requested,

Just surfed around a bit and couldn't find one new/rebuilt?? Can you see the body of the motor easily? If you can, give it a whack with like the plastic end of a screwdriver or small hammer. If it snaps right to that makes it pretty sure it is the motor itself that's bad. There could be other things. Would be nice to see that it gets voltage and NOT work before replacing it.

If this is real expensive or dealer only for some reason inquire about getting that one rebuilt or a used one,

hey i was talking with you like 2 weeks ago bc of my heater, that only works while driving , well when the warmer weather came my heater started working again but now it doesnt anymore bc its cold again. so my conclusion is that the heater only works when it is over 55 Fahrenheit is. Do you have and suggestions what could be wrong? bc the motor seems to work, only if its warm tho :P

Did you find the blower motor itself yet? Does this seem like no blower motor at all when it does this?

its the same motor i had on before , the same motor used to work perfect in the summer but once it got cold it stopped working , but the 5 days ago we had 60 degrees outside and then my motor started working the whole day not now that it got below 50 degrees it stopped working again. You know what i mean basically when the weather is warm it works but when its cold it doesn't work. could it be the wire ring ?

What "wire ring?" What I was thinking is that the car may have a blower delay so that it won't blow cold air at you until warmed up - those are monitoring coolant temp not air temp though. I'd like to know if power gets to the blower motor at all,

Duh! Yes - that's why I want to know if current gets to the motor and then dig into it whether yes or no??

Ps: JIM - after reading about seven Zillion posts you do lose your mindCrazy ....... if you find it please send it along!

Re: Heatflow only while driving ,none while standing Sign In

well the blower motor does not get current when the outside temperature is below 50 degrees or so, so the blower motor only works (gets current) when the outside temperature is above 50. so the engine heating up has nothing to do with it cuz it still doesnt work after a while. it seems like it only has to do with the outside temperature. let me know if you know what i mean now. sorry to make things complicated

Ok: First off I don't know Audis very well specifically. Cars made with ATC (automatic temp contol) and perhaps others will put a temp sensor in the inlet coolant hose to heater core to sense temp and disallow the fan till a specified temp is achieved. Many of my own I just defeat that feature because I want the heat even if not so hot as early as possible mostly to de-ice the whole car. Most of those will ignore the temp when defrost only is selected but can't say for your car. I'm in full guess mode for you and could use help from others here if they are watching.

I think this may be the problem. That device in cars that do that is just a two wire temp sensing thing in the inlet heater hose. It could be a combo valve in some vehicles that also alters the flow of warm/hot coolant. Those would have more wiring and a diaphragm on most. I don't have free access to diagrams for this and if it was in front of me i'd be looking at how things are done as best I could with a simple test light seeing what happens at what temp,
