Tom...thank you for replying. Here is "a" solution, with which I am completely satisfied. There is indeed a special tool requirement to get those heater hose couplings off. Apparently, in model year 2000, there are 2 variations as to how the heater hose is run. In the first, it comes out of top of intake manifold....in mine, they both run above the engine line into the firewall. For who knows what reason, GM used these couplings that look like a "quick disconnect". Nothing could be farther from the truth. Most independent mechanics have this little plastic washer type "wrench" that fits on the coupling's front side, thereby depressing the locking cleats within. Couplings removed, one instantly wonders why do I need these couplings? They are plastic, the nipple to which the heater hose connects via hose clamp is KNOWN for breaking...so let's just slide the bare hose onto the metal nipples coming back at you out the firewall and clamp them down. Yup....that's the accepted method and is known to retain all the confidence of repair even if you'd used new couplings. Thanks for the reply, again, Tom...and I hope this may help out others. --Bryant. --Bryant
