I have a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox that has a ac problem and I'm not smart enough to figure it out by myself. The pressures are 81 and 83. The compressor won't engage by itself but I can trip it through the relay in the fuse box and it will engage but it won't take freon even with the clutch engaged running. I've tried my manifold and a little ac pro gauge and neither will suck the freon in even when engaged. I've used a leak detector and no leaks, fuses are all good, and I'm lost! Any ideas? Thanks

You have to realize that AC diagnosis requires extensive experience and observation. You can do extreme damage to the system by arbitrarily jumping things out or adding refrigerant. It is made to operate on a specific weight of refrigerant. Too little is a problem, too much is a problem. You can't diagnose anything with one of those Walmart death kits for gauges. Your compressor is not engaging so you are seeing equalized static pressure. That doesn't tell you much. You may or may not have sufficient refrigerant in the system now. Your problem could be electrical in nature which will leave you lost. When we approach a problem like this we start with a complete evacuate and recharge of the system as that is the ONLY way you can know how much refrigerant is in the system. You also need a set of professional high and low pressure gauges before you even begin. Take it into a reputable shop and let them diagnose the problem. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
