Dodge Stratus Wet Drivers Side Floor Sign In

I have a 2003 Dodge Stratus Coupe. The drivers side floor is wet all the way to the back seat. It seems to get worse when the A/C is running more. Is there a drain in that area that could be clogged? Please Help.Crazy

Actually if it can do that without A/C it would be a separate issue most likely. Yes there's a drain. They can clog with pollen, small junk or dirt or sometimes a mud wasp around me will plug them tight.

Some are "elephant" nosed and don't drain well - more of a GM thing I think. Certainly easier to find when dripping normally but look for a rubber elbow center towards the right (passenger's) side firewall down low on where distribution box is.

If the water is clear and definitely not antifreeze this does happen. If so and you find the drain ok just use extreme caution in clearing it. If you need to poke something up in there I suggest a plastic wire tie instead of a coat hanger type of metal as you could damage the evaporator or something in there if too aggressive,

I am having trouble finding the drain. And all the water is on the drivers side. It has no coolant smell what so ever. And the coolant level in the reservoir has remained constant. Only happens when A/C is running and the floor is soaked. Do I have to remove any dash pieces to see the drain possibly? Would it normally direct to the outside of the firewall to drain?

It's going to be a plugged drain. You just have to locate it on the firewall on the passenger side. Some of them are hidden real good.
If you go under the dash on the passenger side and feel the shape of the bottom of the housing, you wll feel where it goes through the firewall and that will give you an idea where to look.

Thanks HT. This drain could be other than a plan open elbow. You may find it better from looking up from under guessing the low spot location. This car is tight back there so may be very hard to see and even touch - not sure.

Plain elbow like this......

Would be easy but it may look all different or channel water away from a hot engine part/exhaust part. Most of the time just squeezing it the junk will come out. In the interest of not letting even a smidge of engine heated air in the end may be floppy - dunno for sure. If troublesome you can when sure that's the one cut that back just a smidge if clogging is a problem ongoing.

Here the only plugged ones I find are from a mud wasp (the insect) and why they like one car or thing who knows? Those just squeeze and the packed dirt falls out.

If still having trouble I'll try to find specifics on location and approach to clear it,

On the coupe, the drain is on the drivers side of the firewall at the aft engine mount. I could only get to it from the top after removing the duct between the air box and throtle body. From below, i couldnt see it. It is a 5/8 tube that sticks out of the firewall about a 1/2 inch. You might have to push the firewall insulation closer to the firewall to see it.

If they made all this crap easy we wouldn't need mechanicsWink

Do dry out interior, lift up carpet or whatever it takes. Mold suks. Copious Lysol if needed helps,
