Compressor whines/whirs during acceleration? Sign In

My compressor is making a whining noise "only when the rpm goes up" and "only when the AC ison"

My engine has only one belt therefore the compressor does not have an independent belt.

I turn the ac off, the whirring goes. I turn it on and it comes!

My AC blows cold btw

what is the problem?

Sounds like your compressor is fixing to go South.

Thanks for your input bro!
I was wondering though, what exactly from the compressor is causing this noise? I have another similar model compressor that works well accept it has a leak, i was thinking of taking out from the compressor what is needed to replace the part/s that is making this noise on the noisy compressor. But need to know what i need to replace

Don't even think about it. You are not equipped or trained for that. Professional techs don't even do that. that is a job performed by the manufacturer. That won't be the only issue you have to deal with. All the internal debris from that compressor likely got push into the next component which is the condenser which will have to be replaced along with the dryer and exp valve/orifice tube. That's not counting the external failure that may have caused the problem in the first place. A/C repair is not for the DIYer.

Excuse me for not being clear, by replacing parts i meant only the parts that could be replaced without talking out the compressor from the car, like the pulley or the bearing, basically the circular rotating black front part of the compressor. And also, im not going to be doing it myself but rather having it done at the shop.

That can't be changed on the car anyway and even that clutch is not as simple as you think it is. That's not your problem anyway. You have an internal issue in the compressor.

By the way, is this a Ferrari or a Mercedes? Hard to tell with the info provided. Either way, there is a lot more involved than just component replacement as HT has stated. If you intend to leave this to a shop then go with the pros advice. You will need more than just a compressor, and your best bet is to buy a new(not a reman unless you hate money) compressor. let the repair shop handle this. If you buy the parts through them they should put a guarantee on them. Buy it yourself and if it fails early the cost savings go out the window.

If it is noisy, it could be sending shavings into the ac system which gets really expensive. Then you have to determine why. Too much head pressure, lack of lubrication, etc. Or else your replacement compressor won't last long.
