If static is about in psi as temp in F then clutch might be out of spec but I worry about a dim ground test as I think ones that do use ECM are directing ground not +12v to engage clutch. Will Clutch snap to with a tap when voltage is present? Carefull of course with a running engine - could be tested with engine off too. If that works and sytem works properly till cycled off again adjusting the air gap would end this problem, T brbettge User May 18, 2008, 9:31 AM Post #3 of 3 (2163 views) Re: Clutch wont kick in Sign In nope, ground is not controlled by ecm. if you are using a test light when you say you have a "dim" ground; then yes, you have a ground problem. there are two wires on the clutch, one "hot" when a/c is signaled to engage the other goes directly to ground. try a jumper lead from the ground side of the compressor connector to a known good ground. Other than that go back to the basics....does the system have enough freon in it to "make" the low pressure switch?
