Broke 94 ford AC Sign In

My 1994 Ford Explorer A/C is not working. When switching it on, the compressor cycles on and off every 5 seconds or so. Gauges show low side to be cycling between 20-50 (every 5 seconds or so). High side stays around 75. Refigerant is 134.

I am not an A/C man so I do not know what to do at this point. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Broke 94 ford AC Sign In

With that much cycling you aren't getting good pressures but it's probably just low on refrigerant.

Take pressures again jumping the low side switch with should be on or near the accumulator drier. Don't let high side go nuts if it does and disconnect jumper wire.

Next you will probably find both pressures too low which is clearly a leak. Look for oily spots which are usually a leaking spot in any A/C lines, condenser, hub of compressor and try to check for oil in any condensate from evaperator or better found with an electronic leak detector.

Hard to say how fast the leak is. If slow enough it will be hard to find and just topping it off would be ok and keep an eye on it. A faster leak needs to be fixed. Fords are famous for leaks at the spring lock connections.

Note the ambient temp as that will change pressures a lot. Check output temps at vents and do everything not to overfill this or any system.

Hit back with what equipment you have for a possible repair, T
