Brand New AC Delco Condenser Rattles - normal? Sign In

Hi All,

I just purchased a new ACDelco 15-62899 condenser (parallel flow). It was new in the box, but makes a metallic rattling noise like something is loose in the right tube end (opposite side of the connections). This is my first parallel flow condenser and wanted to know if it was normal??? Is it the dryer since I believe it's part of this unit?

Here's a link to the product:

The drier shouldn't make a noise like that. It could be a piece of solder rolling around in there. If there is something loose inside there, I wouldn't put it on.

Thanks for the reply.. It's definitely bigger than a piece of solder. It feels like it takes up most of the tube, but the top is loose and hitting the wall.

I was hoping not to send it back, but my gut was saying I have to send it back.

When in doubt, don't put it on. That is my motto...LOL

We did an AC job on a Hyundai Elantra a while back. It got condenser, compressor, TXV, and flushed out because the compressor grenaded.

Worked great after the repair. Then when summer time came around the customer complained that it would quit cooling after long drives. Come to find out the high side pressure was opening the high pressure cut out switch. Pressures were in the 450 psi range and the compressor was humming real loud. Come to find out it was a defective condenser. Took the drier out of the condenser and there was solder in the desicant at the bottom. The solder was plugging up some of the tubes.

We had a hard time getting a labor claim for that one. They tried to blame us for it, stating we didn't flush the system out good enough. The factory got the condenser and inspected it and found out that one of their builders got sloppy. I am so surprised it didn't melt the new compressor we put on. I am sure it took some life out of it, but when we installed a good condenser, pressures were nice and it cooled like it should.
