Blower motor randomly working

Hello, I have been having an issue for a couple of months not with my blower motor not working. If first started where it would only work on setting 5 which is a classic resistor issue. However, that problem dissipated on its own and ended up effecting all settings 1-5. It really was a hit or miss whether or not the blower would turn on. If if did turn on, I could not change the settings without it tuning off for good until another try the next time I am in the vehicle. Just a week ago, I replaced the blower motor AND resistor just trying to get them both out of the way since I was going to be under the dashboard laboring. Of course, the issue is STILL happening! One sign that might help you guys is sometime when I turn the car on and I left the fan on from the previous time driving, the fan will turn on for a second, shut off for 2 seconds then come back on. Or also, the fan will have a 5 second delay or so before even coming on. 2000 Chevrolet Impala (Base) 3.4L 112,000 miles Any help is greatly appreciated!

Can you verify motor gets power and ground? Body of motor must be grounded. If not this could be the selector switch or other wiring issue, T

The motor itself doesn't have to be grounded. It gets both power and ground through the resister. Check for any burned contacts in the plugs at both the resister and the motor. Then try rapping on the motor with a screwdriver handle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It's done the exact same thing with old and new motor and resistor and do suspect a plug or wiring issue not the motor itself so fast but who knows but doubt a second bad one but the "whack" it test wouldn't hurt, T

It could be a switch but check for power and ground arriving at the motor to see which one is missing and check the 2 fuses at the top of this diagram.

Does the cruise control work when the blower isn't working? You could also check for 12 volts at the A/C fan fuse when the blower isn't working. Those did have ignition switch problems that would cause intermittent blower operation. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
