Air/heat sometimes works sometimes doesn't

Hi, I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla with about 120k on it. I have been experiencing this problem for about 5 months now. When my air and heat work, they work amazingly, like they always have in the past. The problem is they decide when to turn on- sometimes it's at start up, sometimes halfway into drive, and sometimes not at all, also once it starts sometimes it stops. When it's not working, nothing is blowing out of the vents, not even neutral air. I'd say it works about 30% of the time needed. Any idea what this could be??? Thanks!:)

Sounds like it's the blower that is cutting out on you. The next time it happens, give the blower motor a good rap with a screwdriver handle and see if it starts then to indicate the motor is bad. You will find the motor under the dash on the passenger side. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Try this: When not blowing at all but requested just tap on body of the blower motor with a hammer. If that suddenly gets it going it strongly suggests the blower motor itself is the problem. If no reaction that is inconclusive so WHEN not working test that it gets power at least for now, T

Thank you both, I will try this! Just to clarify, I should hit where the blower is over the plastic of the car, or actually access the blower and hit the actual part? Anything I should be careful of when taking it to a repair place, is the AC something that is pretty straight forward, or is there a part to it the places often try to oversell? Thanks again!

You need to hit the motor itself, right at the round cylinder part. You may have to remove a plastic cover under the dash.

Get at body of the motor for a love tap - plastic or metal hammer just don't go nuts doing that. If hidden move away what you need to for that. No, it's not an oversold item and some do this some don't. Not a serviceable part you get a reman or new motor with or without a cage. Just watch out as some nuts on things that turn are reverse threaded and dunno for all, T
