AC clutch goes one off every few seconds Sign In

HI
I have 2001 ford taurus (V6 engine). Some time ago the AC clutch started go on off every 8-10 seconds. I took the car to mechanics 3 times . Third time I took it to a a mechanic and he replaced the shredder valves (saying they are leaking) and pumped freon to the correct pressure. But as soon as I left the mechanic shop AC clutch started give me the same problem. There is no problem with cooling. Can you advice on this issue. (Note: compressor is new)

The clutch is fast cycling due to low pressure cutoff. This can be due to low refrigerant or a restriction in the system. For that matter it could also be cycling off due to high pressure. Either way, there is a problem that needs to be found and it doesn't sound like your guys are knowledgeable enough to do that. Everybody thinks they can repair/diagnose A/C but very few really can.
The pressures and the temps have to be analyzed carefully.

calebrown - anyone: A CCOT = (Clutch Cycling Orifice Tube) set up and and Hammer said will normally cycle compressor. What caught my eye is a new compressor? What happened with old one? Depending on what failure what else was done?

If trash and just a teaspoonful is way too much of junk is in the system another shut off is for too much high pressure and could cycle from that. This is NOT diy friendly to diagnose or the fix and just a new compressor isn't the answer. Fact - you can ruin one in about a minute if not done properly!
