I have a 1988 plymouth voyager that keeps breaking the ac belt it just breaks them clean it doesn't squell or burn just breaks after the unit runs for a little while. I have installed a new compressor so I no that is not locking up. Also how does the unit sense the tempature Thank You

I think this vehicle uses a "TXV" = Thermal Expansion Valve to regulate flow of liquid refrigerant to evaperator core. If overcharged for some reason compressor will work way too hard and thus will be hard on the belt. It's more likely that there's a belt tension problem or that the pulley on the compressor doesn't have the right # of grooves to match the others - if so a new belt won't last for squat - got the T-shirt as you don't always notice that right away. Check the # of grooves and valleys in clutch pulley and the rest of the pulleys, T

as far as how this unit senses temperature....it doesn't. It works by "sensing" pressure. might also check the pully(s) for sharp edges...and "eyeball" the alignment of the pullys to be sure they line up.
