I totally understood the risk, but the 2k repair costs where just to much of a risk to start with.. no way where I could have done the work of taking the dashboard out myself. ( I don't even know how much of reseting with special tools/computers etc would have to be done) The shop the quoted me $750 turned out to be wrong with the diagnostic already, since they told me there are two bad actuators, this deal might have not turned out well ... . So since I got as far as taking out and checking the actuator I took the rist of cutting open the housing since I got a good look at the housing already by taking the actuator off. The actually main step of the repair (after the puzzle work of clearing the way) ... from what I saw on youtube looked very simple and easy to me as a dental technician who worked with kind of like Dremel tool for 4 years every day....Cool .... the cut was not a problem !

I'm glad you were able to confirm what the problem is.

I'm not sure what your plans are when you say you are going to fix it yourself. If you plan on cutting open that housing, there's no going back once you do that. If you ruin that housing and have to replace it, your problem will get much larger.

Personally, I would never cut up the housing on a late model car like that. I would remove the dash and do it right.

Tips for the resemble :

- Grind off a good amount of plastic before sitting the cut out piece of the housing back in. To fit it in otherwise will almost be impossible. ( Blend Door will have to be set in place with the white connector piece of the actuator also, so cut out piece has to have some wiggle room.

- Can be sealed up with General Electric or other quality silicon ( -60F to +400F temperature durability) Big gaps can be closed with some additional electric / fire proof gasket material like in the picture.

- IMPORTANT :The blend door will will fall into the COOLD position after installing, so the actuator will have to turn into the all cold position with the A/C controller knob as well before installing if not the blend for will break immediately again !!! )

- I would start woking on everything with the battery disconnected .. just in case...
... until reassembling and checking the actuator position.
The repair will take a couple of days any way and since the seat will have to be taking out for accessibility something might drain the battery over night anyway !
