97 honda civic Ac diagnosis question Sign In

So i attempted to add some refig to my 97 Civic 1.6L. I hooked up my gauge and got a reading just below 20. I had to jump the clutch relay to get the compressor clutch to engage. So compressor clutch is engaged pressure gauge still sitting around 20 Ac on full blast hook up the can of refrig and soon as i start to add it the gauge shoots up well over a 100 well into the red zone on the gauge. WHY??? The only reason i thought to add more was it was low. The air blows just not cold not really even cool. But don't understand why the pressure shot way up as soon as i started adding refrig. HELP it's hot here in FLA

You're way over your head here. Those death kits will do nothing but destroy your system. Get it diagnosed by an AC specialist.

PS, you're in Pensacola. We don't even consider that Florida.

Another one! It shot up because for a moment it was reading the can not the car. Put that thing in the trash at once before you destroy your system or hurt yourself. They are aptly named DEATH KITS for a reason. Like this junk.......

Hey, if you don't want to hear the facts, don't ask.Tom didn't tell you anything different than I did.

The Pensacola comment was a joke in case you didn't get it.

scatinazz: No hard feelings any way. Those cans and others like them are sooooo short of info and boast how easy it is they should be illegal to sell IMO. It's a travesty and most parts places have those right in your face and the real stuff well hidden. You still have to know a LOT and take a lot of observations before just adding refrigerant at all.

Been said that most cars will need a boost in roughly 7 years. I beg to differ. #1 reason for poor cooling or no cooling is still low charge but if not and think it is you can ruin a system and warnings on products lack at telling you that.

It's not your fault for believing the claims of these products and think that automotive A/C is just a rip off game - you couldn't be more wrong. It takes time and fully understanding what should be happening where plus all are VERY sensitive to having the correct charge not more is better type thing.

Sorry for the novel. It's frustrating for me to hear or see people in these stores buying this stuff not knowing how much trouble they probably going to get in to and WE (both Hammer and I) are a bit frustrated that the stuff is out there.

This A/C and charge thing is nothing like adding a quart of engine oil with a dipstick that showed you need to,

Tom
