My problem is my 1997 Jeep TJ. During the last cold snap, heat stopped coming from the defroster and the vents, but still comes out the floor vents. I have left the Jeep running for a long long time and still can't get heat to come out of the defroster and upper vents. Does anyone have any idea what this is about or what needs to be done? Unimpressed

There are diverter doors in the heater box that channels the air and controls the temp of it. These can fail or the controls of them. The usual "home base" position is the defrost mode. Sometimes you can feel the little bar that should move and it might just free up?? T

You said sometimes you can feel the little bar that should move-- where would I reach to find this bar? Blush

I think the levers/little bars are inside the car under the dash but on top of the box on right hand side. Follow the heater hoses to the box which may be under the hood. If that's it use all caution not to mess with any wires that have anything to do with and air bag system, T

there is a little plastic clip on the heater box that connects the actuator rod to the mode door that has broken.it is located half way up the driver side of the housing,if i am correct(i have dealership experience and have repaired this problem before). you can take a small screw (drywall type)drill it into broken clip @1/4 in. then take pliers and extract broken piece, then reinstall new dealer part re connect rod. it is not easy but can be done, otherwise you must remove and disassemble heater box which is harder. try not to change modes with blower on high ive found this happens more often when blower on high. good luck hope this helps.
