I have a 93 ford escort LX with a 1.9L engine, which I just made turbo. When I bought the car the A/C compressor was not working so I took the engine apart and rebuilt it from top to bottom everything is new. Now the problem is this when I turn on my a/c the car turns really I mean really weak to the point that when I am driving it I have to launch off at 3000 rev so that the car can move when I turn off the a/c the car has power like hell. the car is in timing and the VACums are in the right place and crank sensor is newand know one can find the problem as to why the car turns so weak. so one guy told me that there is this black box in ford cars that advances thetiming when the a/c is turned on and some one must have taken it out. I don't know if that is true and if there is a black box that advances the cars timing when the a/c is turned on what is the black boxs called and where is it located on the car. Thanks

What did you do to anything with A/C to do this work?? There would be a procedure to deal with it opened or it will be all screwed up and if so the sooner you fix it the better, T

What was wrong with the old compressor? Did you vac and charge the system with oil for new compressor and did you replace the accumulator drier? Did the system need to be flushed out??

This is all questions -- sorry but have to know. Did you refill system by pressures or volume? Is this a 134a system or R-12? Could be either in 1993. Either refrigerant if over filled would cause an hydraulic lock and damn near stall an engine or break the belt off and be a total headache.

A/C is not just like replacing an alternator. It's a whole system and specialty by itself and can be very expensive, T

Re: 93 ford escort A/C problems Sign In

well to tell you the truth I only work on engines I don't know anything about A/C so after i put in the new compressor and bought all the new parts such as the a/c lines dryer and expansion valve I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE LOCAL A/C shop and they put everything else together they cleaned the lines and put 134a in the car thats about all I know they did i had nothing to do with the a/c I payed to get that done. so everthing should be right thats why I really don't know what can be the problem it seems as if when i turn on the A/C the car like falls out of timing. Lets put it this way I can be driving fine the minute I turn on the a/c it feels like something grabbed my car from the back and i was draging what ever grabbed my car from the back. But Like I said all the a/c parts are new and I took it to a A/C shop so that they can put it together so you don't think it can be that box that, that guy was talking about that advances the cars timing when you turn on the A/C.

Thanks for all your help by the way I hope we can fixs this problem.

Got it! Sounds like it's way overcharged and causing a nasty load on engine. Way undercharged would simply not work well or work at all.

Sounds like you did the right thing and should go back to that A/C shop for a redo by volume.

This is worth you getting gauges for your A/C which is all telling in most cases as to what's wrong with it.

CarJunky has my name clickable to a site of my own which is really part of the other site that handles tough and regular A/C problems........

HTTP://AutoACsystems.com/TomGreenleaf and if that doesn't click take my name out of it it should. Another is WWW.ACsource.com ..

These sites are the world's movers a shakers for A/C. We can get to the bottom of this and use my name if you want and the many minds will have ideas on what to do next. I would recharge your system but would love to see what some of the folks suggest, Hang in there, T
