Exactly how much refrigerant is in the system right now? What is the system capacity?
Don't know? Then you can't possibly diagnose the system properly.

It's pretty hard with R12 because chances are, you don't have a charging and recovery station to do that with.

What are the high and low pressure readings at idle and 2000RPM?

also blower motor only blows on high.could this have something to do with my problem?

Re: 68 camaro a/c Sign In

This is a job that you should leave to an A/C specialist. There are way too many things that can go wrong with this if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah............ right R12 was still being used in new vehicles until 1993 so I wouldn't bet on that.

I wasn't referring to R12 specifically anyway. I was referring to your general lack of understanding of refrigeration principles and the need for an on-site inspection by someone that can recognize issues, especially a POA system.

Re: 68 camaro a/c Sign In

I still have some serious data thru 1969 in "Service Trade" (covers '61 thru '69 models) edition Chiltons paper but zero to add for a Camaro as exactly NONE known by me locally ever ordered one with A/C.

Near certain the blower only working on high has nothing to do with lack of cooling but never say never on things like that.

R-12 recovery locally is about extinct except for salvage yards for mostly old refrigeration items to sell it and mandated not to toss appliances out with the gas still in them,

Fixing the blower speed control would be a good idea. Along with pressure readings and air discharge temperatures, it would give us a general idea of what is going on.

You must have pulled that off Facebook Nick. Glad I smiled for that picture.

They tell me the 60s were pretty wild. Wish I was there.

Actually that is HT's customer's waiting lounge. Looks like he had someone waiting a little too long.

Then maybe you can help. My ex wife isn't dead yet but that hasn't stopped her from haunting me. What's the service call fee?

Re: 68 camaro a/c Sign In

I haven't seen her in person in 3 years but since wisconsin's divorce law was written by an angry lesbian on a bad drunk it would cost me too much to divorce her. So I live with my girlfriend happily. You should see the looks I get when people ask if we are going to ever get married and I tell them I already am.

I asked my boss about the suction throttling valve. He said to smack it with a hammer. They like to stick. LOL
