2010 Toyota Corolla - AC won't turn on
|
|
|
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla, not sure of engine size, 101K miles, and my entire ac system decided to stop working on my way home from work (fan and compressor). I checked all the fuses in the car and under the hood. There is a 50a fuse labled "air conditioning system" in the book, but under the hood, I can't seem to find it. Where that fuse should be, a plastic cover is over it so I'm guessing there isn't one or it's a different type of fuse. I pulled the center console out and saw several relays. I'm not sure if any of those are AC related and was hoping one of you might know as the book does not label them. I was also wondering if the speed selector could have anything to do with it. All the lights light up except for the "A/C", so I'm guessing that's related. See pics below. I'd like to try and go through this myself but, it sounds like I might have to take it in to get it checked out. http://i65.tinypic.com/2e0o5eh.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/jfahs6.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/5ckth1.jpg

There are any number of things that can prevent the system from engaging. It is controlled by computer. Unless you have extensive electrical experience and it appears you don't, you are going to need a professional to diagnose this for you. Here is the wiring diagram. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thanks for the diagrams. Is that the original size? I can just make out some of the wording. I'm not sure what the sequence of operation is, but it looks like the ac amplifier assembly controls everything and either it's not working or something (a sensor?) is preventing the ac system to turn on. The blower circuit looks separate from the compressor circuit and both are controlled by the ac amplifier. I'm also not sure what "E4" is or where it leads to though (ground?). I should be able to jump the 3 and 5 terminal where the HTR Relay sits and the fan should come on, right? Ironically, I'm an HVACR tech by trade, but without diagrams, there isn't much for me to go off of except for the basics of checking fuses.

I enlarged them a little but that's about all I can do.

Idea? Try sending to yourself on another device or to a printer and print it then it should show clearly the details. Hard for me to directly read those too, T

Send it to yourself? If you want to save it to the computer, just right click on it and save it. You don't have to send it anywhere. You can then do whatever you want with it, including enlarge it further.

Thanks again for the diagram. I didn't get a lot of time to play around with this as its getting dark. I'll have to look into it more tomorrow.

Check the HTR-ign fuse 10A in the dash fuse box and then check power out on the yellow wire from the AC switch. From there it goes to the amplifier (module).

Unfortunately, I don't get much time after work to play around with this but, I did get a chance to check the above. The fuse is good. I pulled it out and checked to make sure I had 12v there. I pulled the connector off the "heater control sub assembly" and, I was either checking the wrong thing or was not making good contact to ground but, I was not getting any voltage there. I didn't have much time today but I'll give it another try tomorrow. Also, where is the ac amplifier located? It states center of dash, but I don't recall seeing anything there with that wire setup.

It looks like it's on the lower part in front of the console.

Thanks for the help. I ended up just taking it in to the dealer to troubleshoot it for me due to the lack of time I have. They ended up saying it was the blower control switch, the one in the middle. Of course, the charge was pretty high so I'm just getting one from the scrap yard. Hopefully that's all it is!

It ended up being that blower control switch :)
