2006, Dodge, Ram, 5.7 I found that the fresh air door was broken off and restricting flow in my AC. The reason that the door broke seems to be that the actuator turns 360 degrees when the door will only alow about 90 degrees of rotation. The actuator does not respond to torque. It will keep turning until it reaches 360 no matter what it breaks getting there. I've repaired the door and reinstalled but I know that if I allow the actuator to turn it will break the door again. What do I do to fix this.

This actuator is made to stop when resistance from the door is reached. Over time the plastic arm on the door gets weak and brakes. Without the door giving any resistance the motor will just turn. If you repaired the door by gluing the arm back on it will just brake again the next time you operate the door. I've tried that before. The only way to fix it is to replace the door. The only way I have found the door is to by getting the whole EVAP box. I think they run about $400 or so. Been a while since I have bought one. Jeff

Jeff, Thanks for the reply. You are right about the motor sensing resistance. It really takes a lot of torque to make the atuator stop turning. It is no surprise that the door breaks. Seems like a design flaw to me. I've glued the door back together and reinstalled. It seems to be working for now but I'm sure it is just a matter of time until it breaks again. I've found this website that seems to be selling the door that I need. Does this look like a good deal to you? jason

No link showing on you post. I agree this is a poor design. Very common part to brake. If you can find just the door get it. You still have to go through the trouble of pulling the whole box out to install it but it will save you some money. Jeff

Sorry, here is the link: http://www.wholesalemopar.com/parts.htm You'll have to drill down to the part. 2006, Dodge, Ram 1500 Air Conditioning and Heating Case, Recirculation Door You can click on the "View Illustration" button to see a diagram. The price is $52.62. Also, I was able to get the door in place without taking the whole case out. If you remove the blower the door will actually fit up into the case from the bottom. The trick is getting that plastic coupling out that connects the door to the actuator. I had to fabricating a special tool for that. The coupling has three prongs that have to be push in to the center at the same time. I used a piece of copper tubing and cut three legs into it. I bent the legs until they were the correct diameter. It wasn't easy but it saved me some money.

Good tip on the the installation and the blend door being availble by itself will be helpful later. Glad it all worked out well. Jeff
