2005 Ford Escape
XLT 4.0
125K miles

10 months ago the a/c was blowing cool but not cold. I went to 2 mechanics - Ford and Pep Boys. One said compressor and the other said condenser. Before I could get it repaired, the belt blew and I took it into my brother's mechanic as I was at his house. My brother's mechanic said the compressor seized and took out the belt. All was repaired, and I left with a working A/C the next day.

Present day, the a/c is once again doing the same. Low pressure ~50 and High pressure ~320 on a hot summer day around 90degF and 50%humidity.

Took it to my mother's mechanic, since she swears by him. He said it is "Black Death." Said the compressor is failing, and it plus the condenser, evap, etc. need to be replaced. Same day took it back to my brother's mechanic. They couldn't find any leaks. Swear it isn't the condenser or compressor. Scoff at black death. Say there is an electrical short that is killing the fuse that is supposed to turn on the fan to cool the compressor. Only 2 months left on the compressor warranty, so I can't trust them not to lie until it is too late.

Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Thought I should add - The initial problem's onset was sudden (after quick deceleration on highway due to sister's dog in back having a bowel movement) and afterwards was intermittent.

Just what was "ALL" was repaired in that? If a compressor seized and broke a good belt you about certainly had plenty of warning/noise long before that so it probably did throw junk downstream. Was that tended to? New or reman compressor? Warranty void if not replaced with driers.

IMO pressures too high but don't know the conditions when taken not just ambient temps but RPM and if fan(s) working properly. If they are not stop right there and find out why not before doing anything else. Pressures seem too high. Guesses include overcharge, poor air flow over condenser or condenser full of junk. Many will not flush out effectively.

At a glance, too many cooks in this kitchen and you are probably back to square one all over sorry to say.

I'll be off-line -- others will likely jump in,

I would also like to know exactly what was done in the first repair. You already had one catastrophic compressor failure and if you didn't replace the condenser, the orifice tube and the accumulator and flush out the entire system it would be no surprise that it failed again and this time it will be even worse. The fan operation also has to be verified as that will lead to a compressor failure also.

PepBoys is the very last place you should ever go for A/C repairs. It is a very specialized knowledge that everyone thinks they have and most don't.

Why would anybody pay ford to fix their poorly made product? There should be a recall. I have a 2012 Ford Escape with 52k miles on it. I turned on the ac and nothing but hot air. The dealership told me it's a problem with the desiccant bags tearing and messing everything up. So I figured cool your product failed and damaged the car, you should stand by it and fix it, NOPE! $2300 for the fix. So I took it to a local ac specialist, $900 later I have ac. I noticed there was another thread about this same issue but hammer time flipped out on somebody and said that because he can use google that all the complaints were from the same person, and locked the thread. What a joke you must be paid by ford or something. Go to the Ford Escape Facebook page and look at all the complaints from all over the North America. Sure seems like a wide spread problem to me.

Guess what? I'm locking this one too. This thread is 2 years old and it's not here for you to just rant. We are here to answer questions and help people out.

Do you complaining somewhere else.
