So a compressor, condenser and expansion valve is in order?

Teach me further. Why the condenser change?

Yes, assuming your system actually has an expansion valve and not an orifice tube.

Personally I usually forgo the expansion valve, especially if it is a hard one, at first to see if there is actually a problem with it. If it uses an orifice tube, definitely change that.

Because when the compressor starts to come apart internally, the condenser is what catches all the debris and clogs it up. These new condensers are bypass type and cannot be flushed. A restricted condenser is the most common cause of a new compressor failing.

Hammetime so as to keep you up to speed, I replaced the compressor and removed the dryer. The condenser was put in that coach by satan himself. It was a task to say the least.

I ran every number on it trying to find a replacement. My auto part store was unsuccessful at finding a match as well. It's a two part piece, evaporator and engine oil cooler married together with the metal brackets that hold the unit in place.

I found one coachbolace that said they had it but I doubt it was the right one. That place was in fort worth 4 hours away. They said they could ship it, but I had no way of making sure it was right until I got it. If it was wrong I'd be out 100 bucks shipping. They wanted $800 for it.

I opted on doing what I could myself. II blewnit out with compressed air. I ran a can of parts cleaner through it. On the exit pipe I put a clean white cloth to filter out and reveal if there were any shavings. I got nothing but parts cleaner through the cloth.

I ran a second can and same thing. I then ran half a can of 134a through it and then a good 5 minutes of compressed air. I am going to have to just roll with it. We will know if it works when the rest of my parts arrive.

Trust me, you are making a mistake that will ultimately cost you a compressor and cause you to do all this over again.

You CANNOT flush most of these condensers. They are bypass type.

Look at the pictures. The one on the left is a serpentine type and can be flushed.

The one on the right is the type I am talking about. One single tube feeds all the vanes. You can literally have 90% of the tubes blocked solid and still blow through and appear clear because the pressure will simply travel through the couple of vanes that aren't blocked but the condenser is basically doing nothing.

There are ways to improvise. They make many different styles of aftermarket condensers. If the power steering cooler is built into it, then you may just have to install a separate aftermarket cooler for the PS.

I have the one on the left. I thank you for posting that pic. I can see now why you say they cant be flushed out.

If you have the one on the left you are really lucky. That one can be flushed and reused.

Re: 2005 496 in a coach, dash AC not working Sign In

Ok. Kind of at a loss here for right now. Checked the oil in the new pump at 4 oz. Put 4 oz back in the compressor. Installed compressor. Put the new dryer in place and drew a vacuum. Held the vacuum for 30 minutes with no leaks. Vacuumed additional 30 minutes. I added 3 oz PAG for the cleaned out condenser and the new dryer. Added 32 oz 134a as the sticker on the hood called for that amount.

145 degrees at the events in the dash. Heater gate valve non operational. Pinched the hose to stop water flow to the heater. Let kewl down. This morning after all heat was removed I started the coach and read the dash vent temp at 70 degrees degrees. Ambient temp was 85 degrees.

This is the perplexing part. Low side pressure was 50 lbs, high side zero. That's with the manifold valves closed and the port valves open. Zero!!!

When I get home today I will hook the gauges up to my truck to see if the manifold gauge on the high side responds. I did shoot compressed air into the red line and the gauge showed the exact right of pressure vs the compressor psi setting.

You can't have zero pressure on the high side so you have a problem with the service port or the gauge.
Once you figure out what's wrong with the high side gauge, we can figure out why the low side is so high.

Re: 2005 496 in a coach, dash AC not working Sign In

Thebpirt has to be the problem. I hooked the gauges to my truck and the high side gauge worked fine.

I did discover the heater hose valve was malfunctioning. It would never close. I removed the valve and while blowing through it, I manually operated the valve arm. No matter the position of the valve arm I could easily blow through the valve. I blocked off the old valve for now and put it back, waiting for the new one to arrive.

So far as the high side port, I think the valve is stuck. I can't see into the top of the port. It is an arms length inside the engine compartment. I tried to depress the shrader valve with a plastic rod. I got nothing out of it, if that's even a possiblity.

That means it has to be drained again to replace the shraeder valve.

Sometimes if you tighten the gauge valve too much it will damage and bend the shraeder.

Schraders! 1/4" inch but act like ones for tires. I don't own the tools to replace those without loss of refrigerant there is such a thing.
Look and measure it's possible it doesn't get touched when hose it on it so how deep is it? Measure another IDK the spec but some are hopeless I don't think you can adjust it OUT some without that being a leak - totally doubt that.
Whole new one may or may not be welded AYOR if you go there.
Other approach if it seals tight with cap on it FORGET it get an infrared instant thermos and measure the temp. If you know the temp for a pure gas like 134a you know the pressure right there too. Many don't have high side ports anymore others use the dang ball ones leak if you touch them once I just make sure cap is really good and don't touch them again now. Caps if perfect for the thing is a final seal so said by GM anyway.
Other II: It's possible another hose for it could be manipulated to reach IDK only have 3 sets none adjust hitting Schraders but not all work on all vehicles either! Tom
