2004 Endeavor A/C blower doesn't work Sign In

2004
Mitsubishi
Endeavor LS
3.8 liters V 6
122,000 miles

One day I turned on my blower, no air came out, but you could hear it turning and it had a sound as though it was hitting something. That lasted for a little bit until now where I turn the A/C on and absolutely nothing happens.

So I took it to a mechanic and they said it was a bad blower motor and blower resistor. They wanted $650 and I don't have that kind of money.

So I went online and purchased a blower motor which was easy to install. It still didn't turn on and so I attempted to put in the blower resistor. Unfortunately the blower resistor that all the websites were recommending did not have the same connection to power it up.

The original model that was in my car was a "Denso 077800-0750"

I bought this: (links not allowed)

Now am I just out of luck with this part? All the Denso parts I can find are overseas. I have found Four Seasons parts that have the same look as the Denso.

I also found:

Unfortunately these are a lot more expensive than the $17 I spent initially, although I'll buy them if it's the solution. Also, while these look the same, some are titled as "resistors" and the rockauto.com is called a "transistor". So it's all a bit confusing.

Can someone just direct me a bit. I looked at my fuses and they weren't blown. I also learned that it could possibly be a blower relay...is it worth buying that first? I don't have any diagnostic tools so I'm throwing spaghetti and seeing what sticks.

Thanks

Please - read the forum rules as links to places are not allowed, pictures of your own are.

You were hearing this thing eating itself up for whatever reason - none of that was some resistor but physically a problem with the squirrel cage and or motor. The price to fix it may and must have been if not errant including damage more than just those parts.

Have you looked at it yet?

Automatic or manual AC? What is the date the vehicle was built? The date should be on the gross vehicle weight rating sticker on the door jam.

It was built in Sept. 2003. It is manual AC.

I just read that you don't have any diagnostic tools. If that is the case, you can't troubleshoot the blower circuit without them. The blower motor is ground side switched by the blower transistor module. The blower transistor is told what to do by the ac computer. You can't check these things without test equipment.

Was it chewed up in there? Stuck stopped from debris?

When I took it out it was pretty dirty, but nothing obvious. I put the new one in and tried to turn it on, but still nothing happened.

OK - Carry on. Just wanted to rule out that it didn't look like a hand grenade went off in there from quite seriously critters, blower stuffed with who knows, out of balance and generally messed up before you chase down wiring issues........ Tom

Without test equipment it is impossible to test the circuits and be accurate in what actually has failed. It could be the blower control module, but that would be an expensive guess.

If you can just determine whether it's power or ground that is missing from the motor by using a test light, that would narrow things down dramatically.
