2001 Marquis A/C Flaking Out Sign In

I have a 2001 Merc Marquis LS with 59,000 miles on it. It has an electronic temperature control a/c unit. The unit gets power, and the desired temp setting can be adjusted, but no air comes out at all except for when I select Norm A/C. On that setting, I can detect a very small flow of chilled air coming out of the vents. This flow increases as I increase RPMs while in Drive, but never to a normal flow point. New electronic head unit needed? Thermastat?

Control head - maybe. Diverter door problem likely if you hear the fan trying but no air, and NO to the thermostat - at least the one for the engine itself,

Thanks. Yeah, the main problem here is I simply can't get the flow to increase at all. What's weird is how there's zero flow using Max A/C, and then the very low flow that increases with drive speed while in Norm A/C. Anyway, if you have any other suggestions I'm all ears. Control unit or divertor door an expensive fix?

Re: 2001 Marquis A/C Flaking Out Sign In

When on Max the air is returning from the cabin - probably under middle to passenger's floor. When norm or outside air is requested the air comes in from where the wipers mount by hood and comes in that way. A diverter door makes the change. Either it can't do it's flap thing or isn't being told to by control head.

The deal with the air flow when you are driving along is just more air available at the windshield. This is a bit of an odd way to malfuntion. Do you hear the fan panting away but just not moving air? Does this car have the cabin filter to filter the air. Doubt that would be it but if it has that it should be checked.

I'm not sure I can help you best here. The guys at www.acSource.com deal with a lot of A/C problems and based out of Phoenix would be worth checking out. I'll see you there if you come visit,

The a/c motor clicks on and off, but no fan noise. The increased airflow when accelerating makes sense now, but funny thing is, even when not moving, in Norm A/C, there is a small amount of chillled air from the vents. Anyway, dropping it off for service soon.

The compressor would cycle on and off. Please let us know what was found here as it may help others and me too if another situation like this crops up,
