2000 chevy tahoe ac noises
|
|

When I run my 2000 Chevy Tahoe with the air conditioning on while accelerating, the truck makes a noise like the cooling fan is striking the plastic shroud. This noise only happens when the air conditioning is on. When I let off the gas the noise stops. If I accelerate slowly, the truck doesn't make the noise. I have replaced the water pump and the cooling fan clutch because the bearings were starting to go, however the problem continues. Could this be my compressor, even though the air blows ice cold? STUMPED

I think you need to get as professional to put a set of A//C gauges on it to see what the A/C is doing when this happens. This could be the high pressure safety valve blowing off pressure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

One trick you can try is to brake torque the engine while some one is standing by the side of the vehicle trying to pin point the noise. Brake torque means you have the vehicle in gear with the parking brake on, wheel chocked, and foot on the brake pedal while pushing on the gas to load the engine mounts up. If you have a broken mount the engine will lift off a broken mount maybe causing the fan blades to contact the shroud. Don't have anyone stand in front of the truck just in case the thing decides to take off. Don't brake torque it for more than 30 seconds at a time because the torque converter gets really hot. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Craziest thing happened to me today... The exact same issue with a 2000. Chevy tahoe... Noise is absent if engine revs less than 2000 rpm, but anything over that and makes the same noise with ac on, cu the ac off and it goes away, did anyone find a solution yet?.?.? Please help EDIT... found out it iis the compressor that will have to be replaced.. Could end up costing around 800 bucks. Looks like I will be riding with no ac in the the north Carolina heat for rest of summer
