2000 chevy blazer

2000 chevy blazer Sign In

Okay so we have some funky noises coming from the passenger side glove box area whenever trying to use the defrost/heat. No heat / air passing through the vents and it first will squeal then almost makes like a thumping noise. Could this be just a simple blower motor issue or does the thumping noise show indication for something else?

That is a blend or mode door issue. It is most likely a stripped electric actuator.

Dude, that is awesome! Whats the best way to fix that? Do I just purchase an actuator and does that come with everything I would need? How difficult a job is this or should we possibly access a pro?

You first have to investigate a little further and confirm which one is having the problem, mode or temp blend. You can probably determine that yourself by moving the controls and see which one isn't responding. These motors are buried up under the dash and some can be a real problem to access and change. Determine which one it is and I'll try to give you a picture of it.

Neither of them are working. Ugh!!! No air movement at all at any temperature or any setting from the dash controls. The thumping almost has a beat to it it is not a constant thump. Would a picture help at all? We could take one and upload it.

You should at least hear the blower running and changing speeds.

Nothing on one or two but could hear it change on speeds three and four.

OK, you also have a bad blower resister then which is located next to the blower motor.

So this seems like it is going to be too difficult a job for a backyard mechanic wanna be? Do you have any thoughts on how much the parts would cost for this endeavor? It seems like it will be labor intensive. There is even a cover that says "cut here to service".

Is it possible you have a picture of what I am supposed to be looking at? I really appreciate all the help. We ladies are not even sure what the actuator is let alone what one looks like :)

The blower resister is real simple but the door actuator could be a lot more difficult. The blend door actuator calls for over 4 hours labor. It's located on the top of the HVAC housing, behind the glove box. The dash has to be removed.

Wow! This sounds not good at all and probably more than I would want to take on. That is what I am thinking anyway. My husband changed a resister on his truck so he probably could do this one but taking out the dash is overwhelming sounding.

I would just like to take a moment to thank you all for this amazing site and quick responses. You have all helped me a ton with my car but I think that this is my sisters blazer I will advise her to take it to repair shop.
