2000 Isuzu Rodeo A/C not cooling Sign In

Our 2000 Isuzu Rodeo V6 with 55k miles is not cooling when A/C runs. Compressor is audibly kicking on and running when switched on, but no cool air is produced. Local mechanic has looked at it and wants to replace: Compressor, receiver drier, and expansion valve. Total cost with labor: over $1400.
Should we consider a second opinion? Is there anything else I can do myself to test the system and see if all this really needs to be replaced? Many thanks!

If compressor still kicks on get the pressure readings. You could rent them and do that in a parking lot and know lots about the compressor's ability and state of charge.

By hand you can just touch the lines (smaller one should be hot - caution) coming from compressor and return cool or cold.

2/3rds of all complaints stem from a leak and low charge. Some are fairly simple and some disasters of course we don't know that yet.

Seems like you've been quoted for a compressor job which it might need. Be nice to be sure compressor's readings and if leaks are noticed on it as the culprit before just doing that.

It's been my experience that compressor failures start with ignoring a noisy compressor which was frequently caused by continued operation with a low charge and lack of lubrication.

Second opinion is called for IMO,
