2000 Ford Windstar No Heat Sign In

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar and I have no heat. The blower motor works on all settings.
I get some heat in the rear, but not as much as I think I should. Both the intake and
output hoses for the front heater core are hot to the touch. I have enough coolant and
the top radiator hose is warm and it does not overheat. I noticed that the air that was
blown out of the defrost was quite a bit colder than the ambient temperature. I felt the
high pressure hoses between the condenser and compressor and they were cold to the touch.
I checked the climate controls to see if the air conditioner was on, and it was not. So
I disconnected the electrical connection at the compressor. This air that is now being
blown out of the defrost is no longer cold, however it is not anywhere near as warm as I
think is should be, and the high pressure hoses are no longer cold to the touch. I have
not checked the air with a thermometer, but it is only slightly warmer than the ambient
temperature. I'm stumped....any suggestions ?

Thanks
Sean

A friend just called and said he thought it sounded like the blend door was not moving. He thought the motor was bad...any other input ?

That would have been one of the first things I looked at.

The compressor is supposed to be on in defrost mode.

That's what my friend said too. Thanks for the input. I'll let you know what I find.

Re: 2000 Ford Windstar No Heat Sign In

Well it's not the blend door actuator, it works. When I tried to reinstall it, the door flap it slides into misaligned and I could not get it back in. I was able to remove screws from underneath and reach in and move the flap by hand. With the heater running that area is too hot to leave your hand there for very long, so I am getting heat, it's just not getting very far, the hot air is being blocked by something. Is there more than one blend door ? I guess I'll have to try to remove the entire casing and see if I can figure out where the blockage is. I have more than basic mechanical skill, but by no means am I a backyard mechanic. I have never done repairs like this and I won't get to it again until this coming weekend, so any details , hints or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks
Sean

Blend door needs to move by actuator. Moving it by hand just means it works manually which you can't keep doing of course. Must turn upon request from dash,
