2000 Ford Windstar AC and Heat not working Sign In

Unsure Summer heat is coming and I'd really really appreciate your help. I recently purchased my 2000 Ford Windstar. I never checked the air and didn't realize to check it due to being in Tucson this time of year, the weather's perfect. I turned the ac and the heater on. The air for both blow nice and strong but the temp did not change at all when going from ac to heat or vice versa. The air feels somewhat cool as if it is just the regular fan blowing. When you turn on either one, it sounded like any normal ac/heater would. No extra sounds or anything. So I bought the ac recharge kit and used it. But right after, the compressor would go on for a second or two and go off for a few seconds then come back on. It happened a couple times so I turned it off and didn't turn it back on ever since. I do not know the history of the vehicle but everything else has been running great! No complaints! Any suggestions on what I need to do to get it fixed??

That was probably the very worst thing you could do. You may have just cost yourself $1,000 or more by doing that.. This system requires a very specific amount of refrigerant and too much or too little can do severe damage. Your original problem may have had nothing at all to do with refrigerant as the temp is controlled by an air blend door.

You need to get this van to an A/C specialist for diagnosis ASAP and do not turn it on in the meantime.

I agree. I know your trying to save some bucks, but in the long run you'll save more money if a professional with the right equipment checks it out.

If that kit had a leak sealer in it you need to tell the shop you take it to upfront. They won't be too pleased if they wreck their machine by sucking that stuff into it.
