1996 Chevy Pickup A/C Problems. Please Help Sign In

I have a 1996 Chevy Pickup 1500 5.7 and am having problems with the AC. My AC is fully functionally when I initially turn it on (no matter how long the drive, hot or cold weather), but it doesn’t work once it’s turned off and turned on again (fans only hot air). It seems to need several hours of rest to function properly again. What could be the problem? I’ve replaced the Freon; it is not the issue.

If you can catch this not working with A/C request check that the compressor is in fact on. The outer hub should be turning at belt speed. It sits still when A/C is off. That clutch can be temp sensitive and have an air gap too wide for the electro-magnetic coil to pull it in to engage. That can be adjusted if the case,
